A Grand Illusion?
No, I didn’t name my blog after the Styx song.
The title comes from a short book of essays by Tony Judt I read in college. In it, Judt wonders if the concept of European central governance is something of a grand illusion, and whether the hopes of those who seek a European nation would ever materialize. I named the blog A Grand Illusion because it seems to me that all government as well as other enterprises I wanted the blog to deal with are grand illusions where the only animating currency is simple human acquiescence.
I suppose in hindsight the whole thing sounds very pretentious. But, give me a break, I was in college when I registered the domain. And now I’m stuck with it.
Again, I’d like to reiterate that I did not name my blog after the Styx song.
