Yoani Sanchez, arrested and beaten in Havana

Published by Alex at 10:52 pm under news

Via Penultimos Dias, the news that Yoani Sanchez along with Claudia Cadelo, Orlando Luis Pardo, Ciro Diaz from Porno para Ricardo and the photographer Claudio Fuentes were arrested, beaten up and then thrown off police cars. They were on their way to a peaceful protest in Havana.

Fear, plain and simple. Desperate fear of what a few brave people have done with blogs and twitter accounts and the example of their courage in the face of repression and threats. And they are right to be afraid because this is the generation that will change Cuba.

Now more than ever we have to show solidarity with Yoani and the other dissidents being repressed inside Cuba. Let them know they are not alone and let the regime know that their every action is being watched b.

(and anybody who is using this act of repression to take shots at moderates, dialogue, Juanes, Europe… shame on you. You know who you are.)

Looks as if this beat down finally convinced babalu that Yoani is not a Castro agent. It’s too bad that’s what it took.

Oh please, they have never believed she is a Castro agent…. they just don’t like that she was living abroad and chose to live in Cuba, that she was sympathetic to Obama or that she was for the Juanes concert. It doesn’t fit their narrow and hateful worldview. Whatever. It’s the burden they will carry, from what has been written in the blog about her and for the comments they have allowed.

But I wasn’t even referring to them. I was reacting to the comments in El Nuevo Herald, comments in PD and a few people that I know read this blog. Assholes taking the opportunity to blame everybody but the Cuban goons.
